Today, (18th September 2015) SLATE celebrated the 10th anniversary of its opening alongside the official launch of its second Feel Good Furniture shop in Armley.
10 years ago, back in July 2004, Frances Jones began the ‘SLATE journey’, with nothing but an empty building, at Moor End in Hunslet, a handful of volunteers and limited opening times. At our celebrations today Frances re-tells the story of the volunteer’s delight at their first sale and how she, along with an expanding SLATE team, have developed in to SLATE Charity Group with two furniture shops (Hunslet and Armley), the Feel Good Cafe in Beeston and our new HQ.
The celebration of SLATE’s 10 years in operation ran alongside the official opening of our second Feel Good Furniture shop in Armley (44-46 Canal Road, Armley, LS12 2PL). We were honoured to have MP Rachel Reeves come to cut the ribbon to officially launch the shop. The opening presentation was followed by celebratory cake and refreshments provided by our Cafe.
SLATE now works three fold, we provide the local community with affordable furniture, we provide work and social opportunities for adult’s with learning disabilities and we save your unwanted furniture, electricals and homewares from landfill.
Thank you to everybody who helped with today’s event and to those who helped us celebrate. We also made the new on ‘Made in Leeds’, to catch up simply go to Made in Leeds Catch Up and click on 18.9.15 (6pm) or if you’re quick catch us tonight at 9pm on freeview channel 8.
