As one of SLATE’s objectives is to help long term unemployed get back into the workplace we have decided to partner with the REED Work Routes Programme which does just that. People who have out of work for a period of time will get the opportunity to come to SLATE, develop skills and build confidence to get them back into a paid job. Below we can see Neil and Jon who went to the launch of the programme last week and told everyone of the good work that we do.
Last week some of our volunteers headed down to the new Paperworks premises in Seacroft to have a gander. Whilst there they took the opportunity to use the huge shredder that Paperworks are lucky to have. Below is a pic of Roy getting rid of that secret information.
Throughout 2016, BITMO raised a total of £600 for the two charities of the year, SLATE Feel Good Furniture Store and the Leeds South & East Foodbank. Raised mainly through raffles held at the Belle Isle Gala, Christmas Party and Christmas Fair, the money was split between the two charities. Here we can see our Eddie receiving a cheque for £301 from Lynne Spirret, Community and Tenant Involvement Officer, Jean Burton, Vice Chair of BITMO and Margaret Brown, Board Member. Thanks again for this amazing donation………I think a trip to the seaside is in order!!!!!!
A big well done and thank you to Sam Dodds who has made the window display in Armley once again fabulous. This does come with a warning however, Sam has said that she wants the display left clean and tidy, if not, there may be trouble!!!
Some exciting news came in last week about some recent applications to a very exciting course. Well done to Eddie, Nicolas, Vincent and Jon who have successfully been accepted on the Tomorrow’s Leaders Course held by Inclusion North. This will give the fabulous four the opportunity to develop their communication and organisational skills which will definitely benefit SLATE upon their completion. Again, a very big well done to you all.
From all your friends at SLATE.
Last week our very own Jackie was a star feature in the South Leeds Life newspaper. The article promotes the People Matter’s get to know you sessions. This month they will be launching a wide range of learning courses and you can find out all about these at the drop in sessions. You are free to attend and there will be no pressure to enrol for a course. For more info visit www.peoplemattersleeds.co.uk or call 0113 234 6896. As you can see, Jackie takes a cracking photo and I’m sure this will be on her wall at home.
